KFL OWENSBORO, KY

About KFL

KFL is based in Owensboro, KY, but we have teams in Daviess County, Hancock County, Ohio County, and McLean County. KFL stands for Kids Football League, so everything we do is based on this one question: Is it best for the kids? If the answer is yes – we will pursue it. If the answer is no – we don’t pursue it. KFL emphasizes safety, character development, academics, life lessons, community involvement and a fun environment for kids to learn the game of football. KFL players are rewarded for the academic success as much as their athletic success.

KFL is aligned with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Kidcentric Sports to implement character development and life lessons curriculum. KFL does not believe in a “Win At All Cost” approach. KFL’s coaches and key volunteers go through a National Volunteer Screening to ensure KFL kids are involved with positive role models. KFL is affiliated with USA Football and the NFL Heads Up program for accountability, additional resources and credibility. All coaches (Head and Assistant) will be trained through the NFL Heads Up Program.

KFL’s Mission:

KFL is organized for the charitable and educational purpose of supporting, fostering, perpetuating and educating youth in the playing of the game of football while providing education and leadership skills in sportsmanship, teamwork, team participation, citizenship and encouraging parental support and involvement in the activities of KFL.

KFL’s Top Values:

Safety

  • All coaches will be certified through USA Football and NFL Heads Up program
  • All coaches and volunteers will go through a National Volunteer Screening (youth sports is not a rehabilitation place for adults with a criminal record!)
  • Four-week Pre-Season to give ample time for kids to learn football in a safe way (no contact the first week)
  • Proper equipment fitting and reconditioning
  • We encourage kids to have a sports physical and complete a medical history form
  • Our Flag Football division is a no-contact division

Every Kid Plays

  • All kids will at least play one side of the ball for both halves in ALL divisions
  • KFL’s participation rules are kid friendly – not adult centered
  • KFL’s top priority is to keep kids playing football from year to year
  • For Flag Football, every kid will touch/run the ball at least one time per game

Sportsmanship

  • All coaches, parents and players will sign and adhere to codes of conducts
  • Character development will be emphasized to players through FCA (www.fca.org)

Academics

  • In accordance with our local schools, KFL will host weekly academic competitions for teams to win free pizzas for performance in the classroom
  • Players and teams will earn Academic Awards at the end of the season for their performances in the class room

Community Involvement

  • KFL will adopt the NFL's Crucial Catch program to learn the value of giving back to the community
